After a maintenance worker stopped in history teacher Bruce Janu's high school classroom and told him about the violence he'd seen in Sudan, Janu was inspired to make a film for his students.
The project turned into a feature-length documentary that unexpectedly has led to a second career as an award-winning filmmaker and speaker, which he considers an extension of his primary mission: to educate.

Panther Service Day is Saturday
Join us Saturday, April 24, for EIU's eighth annual Panther Service Day, during which volunteers will work on various projects to improve the city.

Nominations sought for alumni awards
You have until June 18 to submit nominations for the EIU Alumni Association's 2010 alumni awards. To read the criteria for the four awards, as well as brief biographies of past recipients, please visit our awards page.
Recipients will be recognized during the annual Homecoming festivities, including a dinner held in their honor on Saturday, Oct. 23.
